Why we exist
Most people don't realise their bank doesn't give them the rate they see on Google. Banks, PayPal, and bureaux de change quietly add a 1.5–4% spread on top of the mid-market rate — sometimes 8% at airport kiosks. On a $1,000 transfer that's $15–80 lost silently.
We built Currency Calculator to surface that gap. Every pair page shows the live ECB rate alongside what a dozen named providers actually charge, so you can pick the one that doesn't quietly skim your money.
How we source rates
All exchange rates on this site are sourced from the European Central Bank via the open Frankfurter API. The ECB publishes daily mid-market reference rates for 31 currencies — the same rates Reuters and Bloomberg quote.
Bank markup figures in our comparison tables are approximate retail-tier estimates. Real markups vary by transfer size, channel, and time of day. Always verify in-app before sending.
